Hello and welcome to my page, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Francesca Medhurst and I am a qualified and registered psychotherapist and counsellor with many years of experience offering psychological and psychotherapeutic therapies.

About Counselling and Psychotherapy:
I know how difficult it can be to find yourself on a page such as this from personal experience, however, speaking directly to you from this experience, seeking therapy might just be one of the most beneficial things you could ever do for yourself.
My aim is to create a space in which you feel able to confide and trust in our ability to examine the areas of your life that you may be unhappy or dissatisfied with and look for solutions to these. My belief is that the relationship and respect created between therapist and client is an invaluable element to the process and progression of your therapy and this is always at the heart of our work together.
Past experiences are another facet that counselling can significantly help with. It is my belief that much of the way that we react to certain circumstances can be traced back to childhood experience. Childhood traumas can leave a significant mark on us in the forms of very low self confidence, manifestations of jealousy, aggressionanger, fear of intimacy and fear of rejection and abandonment. Understanding your past, whatever it entails means that you can move into a future you are happier with.
Sometimes we experience extreme pressures that are set upon us and we can feel that we are unable to meet the expectations of others. Sometimes we can be in relationships where communication is no longer how it once was and we want to know how to better understand what has happened and rekindle what seems lost. All of these situations can feel confusing, overwhelming, difficult, exhausting and isolating.
I trained as an existential analytic psychotherapist and counsellor at the University of Roehampton on their MSc training which is accredited by the UPCA (organisational member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy). I am also a member of SAFPAC and registered member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I abide by the Code of Ethics as set out by the BACP. Furthering my studies and research has led me to undertake a part-time PhD in Psychotherapy and Counselling..
My training draws from many different schools of thought in an integrative manner, ranging between the person centred approach, existential and psychoanalytic philosophies and postmodern teachings. This means that I am able to tailor my work with you from a wide area of background theory because counselling is not a 'one size fits all'.
My many years of clinical experience are comprised of working within a varied plethora of mental health settings from working in the NHS to working in a substance misuse unit (Turning Point). Most recently my work has been centred around working within a community counselling service in Canterbury as well as providing counselling for students at the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury. I run my private practice alongside these.
